Now when I’ve been lucky enough to have an open fire in the first place, I’ve typically just rolled old newspaper into balls. However, this slightly pretentious (yet elegant) Newspaper Log Roller creates ready to use logs out of old newspapers ready to start your fire. (more…)

It’s refreshing to find a hand-powered green gadget that’s actually useful, particularly with the Piranha Dynamo and Rechargeable Shaver. With just 1 minute of cranking, you get 80 seconds of shaving time. If you charge up the shaver via the mains, it would take 8 hours and give you around 60 minutes of shaving.
However, if you’re in the middle of nowhere, a hand-powered shaver is a pretty useful eco gadget. If the shaver had some kind of generic charging socket, you could use a solar panel too. However, standardised charging sockets are a long way off, but it’s a simple idea that might sell a whole lot more gadgets.
A US company called Husqvarna has just announced the release of an eco friendly gadget, the AutoMower Solar Hybrid, which is basically a solar-powered (topped up with mains electricity) automated robotic lawn mower. Once a garden is set up with an underground perimeter fence, the AutoMower Solar Hybrid can manage cutting lawns up to half an acre unattended. (more…)

Some of the chemicals used to kill pests are pretty nasty, so it’s nice seeing a company taking a green approach to pest control. (more…)

The WaterMill is an elegant solution for providing pure drinking water, by literally condensing water vapour in the air into an internal chamber. According to the ElementFour website, atmosphere contains between 4g and 25g of water per cubic metre. Of which, the WaterMill can convert between 10 and 40% of that water vapour into drinkable water. (more…)
We’ve yet to see a wide range of eco-friendly gadgets hitting our offices yet, so when the need to print something important comes along, it’s more economical to use a printing service. Thankfully some environmentally conscious printing companies are starting to pop up. These printing services can print business cards, custom stickers, custom postcards, custom greeting cards, posters as well as brochure printing. So what’s so good about eco-friendly printing technology? (more…)
If you’re into your fishing, you’ll know that sometimes the line will just break or it needs to be cut for safety reasons. Unfortunately, most fishing lines are petroleum-based polymers that can take up to 600 years to break down. This huge length of time can have a surprisingly devastating effect on marine life. However, eco friendly technology has produced this specially designed fishing line which will bio-degrade in 2 to 5 years, causing a much smaller degree of damage compared to it’s conventional counterparts.
