Now when I’ve been lucky enough to have an open fire in the first place, I’ve typically just rolled old newspaper into balls. However, this slightly pretentious (yet elegant) Newspaper Log Roller creates ready to use logs out of old newspapers ready to start your fire.

Piranha Dynamo and Rechargeable Shaver

Posted October 29th, 2008 by Dan (EnviroGadget Writer)

It’s refreshing to find a hand-powered green gadget that’s actually useful, particularly with the Piranha Dynamo and Rechargeable Shaver. With just 1 minute of cranking, you get 80 seconds of shaving time. If you charge up the shaver via the mains, it would take 8 hours and give you around 60 minutes of shaving.

However, if you’re in the middle of nowhere, a hand-powered shaver is a pretty useful eco gadget. If the shaver had some kind of generic charging socket, you could use a solar panel too. However, standardised charging sockets are a long way off, but it’s a simple idea that might sell a whole lot more gadgets.

Nobody likes having creepy crawlies in their home. There’s nothing nice about sharing your home with wasps, rats, roaches or any other pest. Unfortunately, usually the most effective way to control an infestation in your home is to kill the pest. Insects don’t exactly lend themselves very well to being trapped and released. Some of the chemicals used to kill pests are pretty nasty, so it’s nice seeing a company taking a green approach to pest control.

Eco-Friendly Fishing - BioDegradeable Fishing Line

Posted October 17th, 2008 by Dan (EnviroGadget Writer)

If you’re into your fishing, you’ll know that sometimes the line will just break or it needs to be cut for safety reasons. Unfortunately, most fishing lines are petroleum-based polymers that can take up to 600 years to break down. This huge length of time can have a surprisingly devastating effect on marine life. However, eco friendly technology has produced this specially designed fishing line which will bio-degrade in 2 to 5 years, causing a much smaller degree of damage compared to it’s conventional counterparts.
