K'Nex Solar Energy System

When I was a kid, I loved LEGO. I had all kinds of Technic LEGO, and used to spend hours playing with it. Well K’Nex are just the same and have an educational kit named the K’NEX Solar Energy System. The kit gives kids hands-on experiments with solar energy, building a total of 7 different models. (more…)

Solar Powered BlueTooth In-Car Handsfree Kit

The Nextar NXBT-001 and NXBT-002 denote the model names of a pair of BlueTooth handsfree kits for the car. The eco bit is that they are both solar powered rather than using the charging port of the car. The Nextar NXBT-001 offers 250 hours of standby time and 10 hours of talk time, whereas the Nextar NXBT-002 offers 150 hours of standby time and 6 hours of talk time. Clearly the charging time of both units depends on how bright the sun is that day. (more…)

Engineer Builds World’s Fastest Electric Go-Kart

An engineer (read: big kid) has built an impressive go-kart that uses 6 Optima D34 (12V 55AH) batteries that allows the kart to reach speeds of up to 60 mph (100 kph). The kart is supposedly the fastest electric go-kart in the world, and therefore is a record-breaker. The batteries drive a S-33 motor and an Alltrax AXE-7234 controller, although the battery life is not mentioned. (more…)

A group of designers (Lee Sung Hoon, Kang Sooyeon, Cho Eun Bee, Lee Junehwa and Kim Jean) have come up with a novel re-design of the beloved TV remote control. Exploiting the energy generated by a moving magnet within a coil, the remote control is powered by simply shaking the remote control. There is no need for a battery. (more…)

A designer by the name of Wu Jian has come up with a concept for an eco-friendly battery gadget. The Soft Solar Battery is made of several layers of film, including a flexible battery and flexible solar panel. The boat builder specialists have used their marine expertise to develop the PowerCube. Working with a company called Reluminati, PowerCube has been designed as a solution for off-grid energy supply. Whilst the sun is shining, the PowerCube can supply 600 watts of power. As you can see from the photo above, the PowerCube is a beast, but is perfectly suited to military, marine, island camps, construction sites, cell phone towers, and emergency situations. (more…)
