8GB EarthDrive – Recyclable Flash Drive

It seems that computer gadgets are a new target for the eco-friendly world, with low power PCs and disk drives using recycled materials. Today we get to see the ATP 8GB EarthDrive made from bio-recycled plastics (not sure what bio-recycled means compared to recycled!) for an attractive $48. The housing of the device is completely recyclable, although this is no good unless you want to throw the drive in the trash! (more…)

Energy Efficient and Eco-Friendly Hard Drive

A company called fabrik has announced the release of an energy efficient green gadget, an external hard drive utilising a low power hard disk and a case made from recycled materials. The drive has no noisy fans (which also cuts down on power consumption), and the case is made using recycled aluminium to efficiently dissipate the heat. The case also features some fancy sustainable bamboo trim to give the drive a natural and organic look. (more…)

The Greenbar: The Eco-community Toolbar

There’s no doubt that awareness of green issues, products and news is growing at a staggering rate. The green community is often a surprisingly passionate group of individuals, so it’s nice to find out about other green sites on the Web. The GreenBar ToolBar is a tool bar that makes it really easy to access other green websites. Buffalo Solar Powered Wireless Keyboard

Buffalo Japan will soon be launching their solar-powered keyboard, the BSKBW01SB. Given that wireless keyboards can eat quite a few batteries in their lifetime, it saves on batteries going to landfill as well as some small energy costs. The solar panel is in the top right of the keyboard, and can be adjusted to any angle to get the optimal light from your environment. (more…)

Woodern Keyboard & Optical Mouse

If you think about it, as a society, we’ve moved away from more natural materials (wood, clay, fibres) and replaced them with a massive range of plastic-based compounds. However, plastic materials have a nasty impact on the environment, often taking thousands of years to break down. Aleutia E2 – 500MHz PC using just 8W of power

The Aleutia E2 is a fast little PC that uses just 8 Watts of power with a peak power usage around 15 Watts when used with external USB hard drives. To put it in context, it has roughly the same power consumption as an energy saving lightbulb. Many PCs and laptops draw around 300W and 200W respectively, so it’s a huge energy saver. It’s eco friendly technology has been inspired by developing countries as an answer to remote and cheap computing. (more…)
