Most western societies have a very throw-away nature, one of many reasons our landfill sites are filling up fast. I applaud this use of eco friendly technology, a biodegradable picnic set, as it means it doesn’t matter if the plates, etc get left around in a field after a festival or picnic, as it’s all 100% eco friendly. If you want to keep the kit, you just wash it after use (as water is a vital part of the breakdown process). (more…)

Sometimes there’s a trade off between having a useful gadget and it’s energy requirements. So if you’re interested in home security, it would be fairly likely you’d want a motion detecting flood light. The “Shit Box” is a wonderful trademark name, despite not being a product you’d chat about with your parents or other prudish family members. You’d need to be a fairly liberal individual to want to use the Shit Box, which is an eco-friendly portable toilet. All components are biodegradable, yet the toilet box itself is re-usable. Inside the toilet are special bags that will happily breakdown if left to compost. (more…)

Conventional fossil fuels costs are going through the roof at the moment all over the world. We need to find and use alternative and cheaper energy sources, particularly fuels that work with cars and other vehicles. The EFuel100 MicroFueler is essentially a home distillery that allows you to create your own ethanol supply using yeast and sugar. Washup is a bizarre conceptual design that combines a washing machine and a toilet in the same place. The idea is that waste water from the washing machine is used to flush the toilet, rather than wasting fresh water to flush the toilet. (more…)
