PowerSafer – Audio and Video Gadget Standby Saver

By Dan (EnviroGadget Writer) on September 22nd, 2008

Do you have lots of accessories with your TV? For example, do you have a DVD player, a satellite receiver, a games console, a video player, a hifi, etc? May be you have all of the above? We all know that leaving gadgets on standby mode can be a significant waste of energy, and be a large part of your electricity bill. The PowerSafer PSX is a simple to use energy saving gadget that will switch off all of your gadgets when you’re not using them.

To use it, you plug the PowerSafer into the mains, and then plug up to 5 devices into the PowerSafer. After a few moments once you have switched your devices into standby mode, the PowerSafer will automatically cut the power to all your devices. When you use your remote control again, the PowerSafer will automatically restore power to all of your devices.

The PowerSafer PSX is designed to handle up to 5 devices, but if the overall current consumption is low, you might be able to use more devices with it. It’s not suited for devices such as Personal Video Recorders (PVRs) or Sky+, as those need to be on all the time in order for the timer function to work. However, given some gadgets use up to 70% of their normal operating power usage when in standby mode, you could save a small fortune.

Thats a nifty product! Many people have no idea about wasted power through “standby” modes on various pieces of electronic equipment.
