Indesit Eco-Friendly Washing Machines

Indesit have announced 2 new washing machines to join their Hotpoint lines, the Indesit Aquarius and Indesit Ultima. In addition to the common features such as water and energy efficient usage, these washing machines are actually constructed from recycled materials.

Indesit have developed a project to recycle shredded plastic waste from old refrigerators and turn the plastic into a high grade and usable polymer. This reduces CO2 emissions, cost, and the volume of raw materials needed to build a new washing machine. The washing machines are packed with the usual features such as programmable washing and advanced interfaces, making it a desirable green gadget.

Solar Powered Patio Lighting - LED Umbrella Light

Chinavasion have released a solar powered LED lighting unit for your outdoor umbrella. The batteries in the light unit charge during the day, and at night you can switch on the LED lighting to illuminate underneath your existing patio umbrella.

The lighting unit is designed to fit around the pole of your patio umbrella using specially designed fixings. There are a total of 24 bright LEDs that provide bright downward illumination or diffused upward illumination if fitted the other way up.

The solar panel comes with 3 metres of cable that allow you to position the solar panel in the brightest part of your garden near the patio umbrella. The battery unit can also be charged via AC adaptor if required.

Solar Powered Keyhole Light

If you’re stumbling home from work or from a night out, finding the keyhole can be tricky if it’s dark. If you don’t have external lighting to your home, then perhaps would would benefit from a solar powered keyhole light. The eco gadget has an obvious benefit as giving you a small amount of illumination in a useful place.

The solar powered white LED light highlights keyholes and door handles, and is powered by an integral solar panel. The light is easily mounted using the adhesive pads or screw holes on the reverse. To use it, you simply push a button to activate it and switch the light on.

However, if the light is good enough to be able to find the keyhole light to switch it on, why do you need it in the first place?

Hi All! I hope that you are all enjoying these eco-friendly gadgets!

EnviroGadget has been going for 6 months now, and there’s a real boom in eco gadgets at the moment! There’s probably a correlation with it being Christmas soon, as well as all the green initiatives and grants floating around.

Therefore from now on, there will be at least 5 articles per week on EnviroGadget, rather than the 3 per week previously.

If you find any eco gadgets you’d like to see featured on the blog, please let me know.

With some clever innovation, it’s amazing what eco gadgets can be created that can help the planet. The 360 Recycled Paper Bottle won an IDEA (International Design Excellence Award) for this design.

Given the millions of plastic bottles that we discard each year, something that finally addresses this issue is to be congratulated. However, we’ve been using aluminium cans for years… why aren’t we using a variation of these instead of plastic?

I question the durability of these paper bottles, however, if they’re going to be discarded anyway, we might as well have something highly biodegradable.

Ambient Light from Vertical Solar Blinds

A pair of designers by the names of Yoon-Hui Kim and Eun-Kyung Kim have come up with a blind that features a solar panel on the outside and lighting on the other side. During the day, the lighting charges up via the solar panels. At night, the room glows using arrays of LED lights in the shape of conventional looking lighting, such as lampshades and bed-side lamps.

Thankfully the lighting comes with switches, so you don’t have the lights on all the time. The lighting is perfect for romantic or party atmospheres. If you don’t need bright light, the idea works well to provide lighting using free energy. I wonder when we’ll see displays where you’ll be able to dynamically configure the pattern?

Solar Powered Keyhole Light

Collapsible Solar-Powered Traffic Cone

Brando are at it again with another of their eco friendly gadgets, the Solar Powered Traffic Code. The collapsible traffic cone can easily be stored in the boot of your car without using up much space. When there’s an emergency, just pluck it out of your car, and pull the top of the cone upwards.

The built-in solar panel charges up an internal battery, allowing the cone to flash using bright LEDs within the cone. This would help the cone draw more attention when lighting is poor. The cone is bright orange with reflective stripes too, so it’s about as visible as you can make it. Costing just $55, it’s a perfectly useful product to keep tucked away for emergencies.

JVC Speakers with built-in Plant Pots

JVC have released an unusual product that combines speakers with plant pots! The speakers are made from eco-friendly plastic that are easily linked together, a bit like lego in a way.

The plant pot speakers combine creative design for audio equipment with a softer feel in the home. Plants are good for the soul, and the speakers form part of an eco-friendly interior design masked by plants. An interesting yet odd concept!
