I have never been able to conceive how can one not wash (with water and soap) after defecating. In my opinion, when you just wipe, all you are doing is rubbing crap all over you butt. No wonder there are so many american jokes about skid marks. Even in poor countries people wash.
Go out and buy a bidet or just take a shower after pooping and stop stinking you underware and your pants. Paper is just plain disgusting!!! And damages the environment, too.

Hi,

Just think if a bit of dog doo came in contact with your habd would you just wipe it off with tissue paper or would you want to wash it with water. The majority of the world poulation wash after defication, it appears only the anglo saxon races (i.m one) think toilet paper is acceptable.
There are enviromental aspects too, toilet paper is expesive, uses trees and bleach and isnot that hygienic. Us a bidet shower and you'll never go back to just toilet paper.

Anyone care to comment about usability since it only taps into the cold water line? Isn't this extremely uncomfortable? Northern U.S. climate here.

I just got back from 2 weeks in thailand. every hotel we stayed at had a bidet sprayer. even in common restrooms. a lot of resturants have them also.
they are great. especially when the malaria medicine gives you the ****s! you will use less rough toilet paper to rub you raw. you do want to hold it at an angle though.
I am looking for one to install in my home now.
based on some of the website i have read, buy a good one. a cheap one can leak and ruin you home.

The Eskimos have an alternative for this. They wipe their butts with snow. Very environmentally friendly and envigorating!

Hello Kevin and Peter, I have been using the Hand Bidet Sprayer for years and I can tell you that there is no problem with overspray or mess. In fact not only does the sprayer clean you, it also cleans the toilet bowl as a bonus. You don't hold the sprayer directly under you, unless you are a contortionist, but at a slight angle and as you lean forward the water is blocked from coming out the front.

If there is any mess it happens before you use the sprayer(without getting too graphic here) and there again the hand bidet sprayer is brilliant for spraying around the edges of the bowl to take care of that. The hand bidet sprayer is actually much more hygienic than a mechanical bidet sprayer for these very reasons. The mechanical bidet sprayer is fixed and it does come out almost underneath you.

Furthermore it has much less water pressure so there is a greater possibility that some matter may fall on it and stay there. If you get too close with the hand sprayer, say to shoot a blast up the pipes, you can easily wash the nozzle off with soap and water, not so with the mechanical bidet sprayers. I know it seems strange, they did to me at first also, but I'm sure the first flushing toilet seemed strange to people as well. The hand bidet sprayer is as good as that innovation, try it....you'll like it.

I have the same concern... I've been investigating these and even emailed a couple companies that make them with no answers.

My main concern is, don't you have to hold this 'under' you while spraying? And does't that mean that some liquid is going to come back down... either on the sprayer or on your hand (we'll ignore the possibility of overspray for the moment).

Can somebody who has actually used these chime in on if these are so great what about these issues? Thanks.

That sounds like a great idea as far as saving money but I'm not sure I can picture myself spraying my bum, wouldn't that be a bit messy? Cheers.
