Solar-powered LED Bricks

By Dan (EnviroGadget Writer) on September 24th, 2008

Lighting a large area with conventional lamps can be very costly to run in energy costs, in addition to installing the infrastructure and maintenance costs. However, with some careful planning, the use of green gadgets, such as solar powered LED bricks can be an attractive and practical technique for lighting pavements and other paved areas.

For the home, you can use solar bricks to light up your garden path, but as the photo above shows, it works perfectly well for any public area too. With many cities in the UK being regenerated, I encourage architects to use these energy saving bricks for lighting in public areas!

That is super cool! I will have to keep this in mind for my future home… I also like the dome style lights that stick out of the ground about 6 inches or so. I’ve heard the solar panels don’t work too good in them, but still better than using electricity for something the sun can easily power.

I actually don’t like those solar lanterns, as the light output is so poor.
