Solar Umbrella Light Globes for outdoor entertaining

By Dan (EnviroGadget Writer) on July 2nd, 2008

With the summer season in full swing, restaurants and bars with outdoor gardens will be in popular demand. Even if you’re entertaining friends and family at home, you’ll probably be heading outside at some stage this summer. These Solar Umbrella Light Globes from Hammacher are perfect for lighting dining or drinking under an outdoors umbrella. The lights are charged by a 10 inch diameter solar panel that fits on top of the umbrella.

There are not many lighting devices that will successfully give you light under an umbrella but above a table. There are solar garden lights that give some light around a garden, but they usually glow rather than illuminate. Candles only have a small light output, and will tend to get blown out if it’s windy outside. You might have a lantern for a table, but if it’s fragile, it might get broken.

At $90, the umbrella solar globes are not too expensive for home use. But since the globes are such a practical eco gadget, they might suit themselves to restaurants and bars too.
