Xantrex XPower Portable Solar Powerpack

By Dan (EnviroGadget Writer) on December 5th, 2008

Most solar powered battery packs are pretty small, designed for charging iPods, digital cameras and mobile phones. The XPower Portable Solar Powerpack packs a punch as it’s able to supply 400 Watts of power at either 12V or 120V AC.

The power pack has a 10Ah AGM battery internally, which can be charged with the builtin 5W solar panel, from a vehicle or via conventional domestic mains power. The 3-digit monitoring display indicates when the battery needs to be charged too. Using the solar panel, the run time of a fully charged power pack can be increased by up to 25%.

Unfortunately, the measly 5W solar panel would mean it’d take days to fully charge the power pack by solar power alone.

I really like this one. I am the producer of some fly fishing videos, and its pretty common to be out for a trip, only to have all of our camera batteries dies, which is a big problem when filming. I just might have to pick one of these up to clear up that problem!
