Just installing the device will save between 30% to 50% of the water needed to flush the toilet, meaning you save money straight away. The Sloan Valve Company have come up with a new grey water kit that installs in your bathroom to recycle your water. The Sloan AQUS Greywater System captures water from your sink and stores it in a small tank. The toilet’s flush tank is then filled up from this reservoir.

As the water is captured, it is filtered to remove most of the nasty stuff from the sink water. Each time the toilet is flushed, water is pumped into the cistern ready for the next flush. Conservative estimates indicate that this gadget will save 2-person homes around 5000 gallons of fresh water a year. You don’t need clean water to flush a toilet!

It’s a simple system. However, there are some slightly more complicated systems that take virtually all waste water in the home and store it in a water tank for watering the garden or for flushing the toilet.

SYLVANIA’s ECOlight LED Water Powered Shower Light is a fun eco gadget that will give you light in the shower, powered only by the flow of water through the gadget. Using a tiny water turbine, the flow of water produces enough energy to illuminate you when giving yourself a scrub.

The LED light itself is adjustable, so you can point it in any direction you want. As an additional safety feature, the outside edges of the ECOlight will change to red when the temperature goes above 41 degrees Celsius (105.8 degrees Fahrenheit), or go blue when the temperature goes below 25.5 degrees Celsius (78 degrees Fahrenheit).

Sure it doesn’t serve any particularly practical purpose, but it’s fun, easy to install and doesn’t need any batteries.
