ReZAP Battery Engineer – Recycle Standard Batteries

The sophisticated charger has a microprocessor control within it, this allows the charger to sense what each battery is in each bay, and supply it with its optimum charging of electricity. This means that the charger can charge any mix of batteries at a time, both of type and of size. It can be used to charge a wide range of sizes and shapes of battery, for example it can charge AA, AAA, AAAA, C, D, N, 9V, 6V and many others.

The charger can charge a mix of battery types and shapes at once providing each one with exactly what it needs. The makers believe that the charger can even benefit normal rechargeable batteries (NiCd and NiMH) because of how each battery is individually custom charged. They believe that it can increase the amount of charges the batteries can take, allowing NiCd to charge up to 1000 times compared to about 800 times using standard chargers, and allowing NiMH up to 600 times compared to about 500 times using standard chargers.

The charger allows non rechargeable batteries to be charged up to 15 times, depending on what type and make they are. This helps to prolong the life of these batteries, helping to reduce the numbers of them needing disposal. Due to the use of the microprocessor, you do not need to know what battery type you have as there is no need to select a switch for each one – everything happens automatically.

The ReZap Battery Engineer also comes with 4 AA to D-sized battery converters, these plastic covers allow you to use AA batteries like D batteries, to help reduce the number of different types of batteries you need to purchase. Solar Powered Battery Charger

With the Solar Powered Battery Charger you can make using rechargeable batteries a step more environmentally friendly. Able to be transported with you the charger allows you to be able to charge up your batteries in places without a standard electricity supply, or simply help you use less mains electric by charging your batteries through solar power.

The Solar Powered Battery Charger is suitable for AA, AAA, C and D type batteries. It also comes with a collection of connectors for commonly used portable electronics such as Nokia phones, portable CD players and portable hand held game devices. The charger is shaped to include a handle in its design to help it be carried easily. The solar panel has been built into the lid of the device with the main body of the device to take the batteries requiring charging. The charger can be positioned at an angle due to its adjustable stand so the solar panels can take full advantage of any sunlight around.

The device can charge both NiCad or NiMH rechargeable batteries. Unfortunately though it can charge 4 batteries at a time it can only charge the same type (e.g. AA) make, and the same sized capacity (e.g. 500mA). The device can take 1-1.5 hours for 4 x 180mA AAA to charge and 3-3.5 hours for 4 x 500mA AA batteries. It is estimated it would take 9-11 hours for 4 x 1500mA D batteries to become fully charged. All these charge times though are subject to the light levels where the charger has been placed. Though this is not a quick charger it does use an eco-friendly energy source and would help top up a rechargeable battery’s charge when out away from mains electricity.

USBCELL – USB Rechargeable Batteries

The USBCELL is a rechargeable AA battery by Moixa. The battery is designed to fit into a USB port and to charge through it. These batteries offer a freedom from the need to have a battery charger to be able to recharge a battery.

The USBCELL is a Ni-MH (Nickel-metal Hydride) battery. Due to this they can be charged up even when the battery has not been fully discharged, without affecting the lifetime of the battery. The USBCELL battery is a 1.2v 1300mAh AA battery. When charging these batteries in a USB port they should take around 5 hours to reach 90% fully charged, of course this may be achieved in less time if the battery was not fully discharged first.

These rechargeable batteries offer more freedom than average rechargeable batteries which require a battery charger, as these can be charged through USB ports. USB ports can be found on most laptops and computers. The USBCELL battery can then be charged while you are out and about from your laptops power.

The USBCELL batteries can also be charged through a Ni-MH battery charger. To charge them through a USB port you just flip down the lid covering the USB plug which is located at the positive end of the battery. When the USBCELL is plugged in a small green light will turn on near the USB plug part of the battery to show that the battery is charging.

The USBCELL batteries cost around £10 for a pair in the UK, or around $18 in the US.

reNEW Solar Battery Charger Pod

The reNEW Solar Battery Charger Pod is a funky variation of the tried and tested solar battery charger that looks a little like a photo frame. The charger itself is placed near a window or stuck to it directly using a suction cup. You place uncharged batteries in the top of the charger, and fully charged batteries come out of the bottom!

Inside the main body of the charger, the batteries are automatically sorted according to their charge, where the batteries needing more charging staying higher up until they reach full capacity. No specifications on charging times, however, I’d imagine it’d be around 8 to 12 hours charging time per battery.

Sure, this is a concept design, but I expect this one will go into production. I look forward to seeing it in the shops!

Roll Charger – Battery Charging with Chinese Therapy Balls

The Chinese therapy balls have long been used in Chinese medicine as a way to stimulate acupuncture points in the hand and to loosen stiff joints. As someone who suffers from hand pain on occasion, I think that they’re a great way to improve mobility in your hands and fingers. A product designer by the name of Jiang Qian has combine this hand therapy gadget with a battery charger!

Essentially the balls convert rotational kinetic energy (i.e. movement) into electricity that chargers the batteries internally. As you move the balls around each other, they drive a tiny dynamo internally. You can tell if the AA or AAA battery is charged or not due to the built-in LED light. I just wonder how long it takes to charge up a single battery!?

The Battery Wizard is actually a gadget I had heard of ages ago, but I hadn’t been able to find one recently… until now! The Battery Wizard will recharge both rechargeable and conventional non-rechargeable batteries.

The charger is capable of charging conventional non-rechargeable batteries up to 10 times. Admittedly, the batteries will not be as well charged as they were when brand new. The Battery Wizard uses a patented pulsing system that charges the batteries. But if you have a set of faulty batteries, the charger will reject them.

The Battery Wizard is capable of recharging almost every size of battery, including AA, AAA, C, D, PP3 (9v) and N. YoGen MAX Foot Powered Laptop Charger

Laptops are renown for having poor battery working times, and that’s where the YoGen MAX comes in useful. By exploiting foot power, you can charge devices that need a 50-60W power supply, such as laptops.
