PowerChimp – Quick Gadget Charger

The Powerchimp allows you to charge a multitude of electronic devices, and is powered by just a single AA battery. The device comes with connectors for many different mobile phones, and can charge devices such as iPhones/iPods, MP3/MP4 players, PDAs and many more. The Powerchimp comes with two rechargeable batteries, when these are fully charged they can offer around an extra 4 hours of talk time to a mobile phone. The Powerchimp additionally has has LED torch built into it. The small device allows you to provide your electronic devices with an energy top up when on the go, without needing the bulk of many different charging plugs or even to be near mains electricity.

Intelliplug – Standby Saving Plug

The Intelliplug helps you to use, or rather not use, your computing equipment in a more eco friendly way. The plug is designed for use with PCs. You simply plug your computer into the main socket space then plug all the computers electronic peripherals into the spaces around the outside of the plug. When you then turn your computer onto standby, or turn it off, the plug will cut the power to the peripherals you plugged into it. This means that by turning your computer onto standby you can automatically turn the power off to your speakers, printer, scanner, or whatever electronics you wish to turn off while the computer is off.

USBCell batteries – USB-powered Rechargeable Batteries

The USBCell batteries allow you to charge AA batteries through a USB port without requiring a bulky charging station. The batteries plug directly into a USB port and even a few minutes of charging provides you with hours of battery use. These batteries can then be used to power any AA battery powered device, and can be used with the Powerchimp. Though the batteries are designed to allow charging through USB ports they can also be recharged through a standard Ni-MH battery charger.

It’s not unusual these days to get through loads of batteries, since we seem to have an increasing number of gadgets. You can charge up to 4 batteries at a time, and you can recharge all of the major battery types, namely AAA, AA, C, D and 9v PP3 batteries.

Rechargeable batteries are without question a great way to reduce waste, helping us all to be more eco-friendly. The Mint Battery is a new concept for standard AA batteries that features an internal magnet and coil that allows the battery to be recharged just by shaking it. The movement of the magnet within the coil generates an electrical charge that charges up the internal Nickel Metal Hydride battery.

Since the batteries themselves can be recharged, without the need for a larger charger device, it means you can top the batteries up whilst you’re on the move. However, due to the small size of the coil, its likely that you’ll be generating very little energy. Therefore its likely that you’ll get no useful amount of energy out from the batteries. I would prefer to have a larger charging device that could be powered by foot movement, which would generate more energy but without being so exhausting.

Unfortunately no technical specifications or pricing information is available. I get the impression that the Mint Battery is just a concept rather than a product.

As gadgets become cheaper, it’s becoming more and more common for gadgets to be fitted into our cars. For example, DVD players, games consoles, MP3 players, air conditioning and more. The chances of having a flat car battery are therefore quite high. When driving, a portion of your fuel is used to charge the car battery. Therefore this Solar Battery Charger should save you money on fuel costs, as it tops up your car battery via the 12V power socket.

The solar charger green gadget has suction cups on the base of it, allowing you to position it for the best sun exposure. The charger has a 10ft (about 2.5 metres) of cable, allowing you to position it somewhere in the front of the car. It might have been nice to have a bit more cable with it to allow you to put the charger on the back shelf of the car. If you don’t use your car that often, it’s a great way to ensure your battery doesn’t run out of juice.
