This Hydro Powered Calculator is an innovative product designed to provide you with a calculator that is powered in an eco-friendly way. Appealing to anybody into both gadgets and the environment, this calculator is ready to go whenever you need it, just insert water!

The Hydro Powered Calculator is powered by water that is placed into three small capsules that fit into the top of the calculator. Each of these capsules acts as a small battery for the calculator, each having two electrodes that are made out of alloys that react with the water. This chemical reaction creates the electricity the calculator requires to work. Though there are no worries about batteries running out, the water within the capsules will require topping up from time to time as it evaporates.

The calculator is encased in clear plastic with bright green buttons. This clear case allows you to see through to see the inner parts of the calculator like the system board, something that is bound to appeal to many out there into technology. The calculator measures 5 cm x 13.3 cm x 7.6 cm(2 in x 5.25 in x 3 in) and can be stored in any bag or drawer without worries over losing charge that can be experienced with solar calculators. Fuel Cell Charger with Swappable Cartridge

MTI Micro has announced the release of its portable fuel cell charger for gadgets like MP3 players and digital cameras. The new aspect of this charger is that the fuel cell is a removable cartridge, which can be re-filled by an authorised refilling centre. Each cartridge gives the user 25W hours of power, typically translating to 25 hours of charge time.

The 25Wh translates to fully charging a mobile phone over 10 times, play 10,000 songs, or watch over 100 hours of video on the popular MP3 and media players (erm, iPod probably). If used to charge up a digital camera, the user can take up to 6000 pictures on a high end professional digital camera, based on a single charge of the fuel cell.

Since the cartridge is removable, you can change to a new fuel cell when its convenient to you, rather than taking the whole powerpack to be refueled. MTI Micro consider the idea to be unique, but I saw hydrogen fuel cells with user-removable cartridges on a production model (v.s. a prototype) about 2 years ago!

The core of the charger is a proprietary third generation Mobion Chip, which uses advanced technology and methanol fuel to allow the charger to be used in a range of operating temperatures and humidity levels. Rather oddly, it doesn’t have a standard USB socket, which means you’ll need a special adaptor to get it to work with your USB devices. Lots of advanced stuff, none of the consumability stuff though!

Water Powered Calculator

It seems as if the water-powered gadgets are becoming a bit of a trend. The water-powered green gadgets typically seem to be very low powered and use a small LCD screen. This new water powered calculator has a small re-fillable cartridge that will power the calculator for up to 3 months with just a few drops of water!

It’s a standard calculator, so it lacks the features of the powerful graphical or technical calculators. Since the battery is powered from water, it’s an eco-friendly technology, great for the environment, and doesn’t need any expensive alkaline or lithium batteries.

Water-Powered Desktop Calculator

This neat calculator uses a water-based battery to generate enough current so that you can do your sums with the environment in mind! Just top this eco gadget up with some water and it will run for up to 3 months until the water has evaporated. Then you just need to top it up again.

Strictly speaking, the water is not the power source, it’s an electrolytic conductor which contains an ample supply of electrons to flow between the anode and cathode of the special “water battery”. This flow of electronics is essentially a current, enough to power the calculator. This is similar in principle to powering a clock from a potato or lemon.
