This Water Powered Digital Alarm Clock allows you to keep track of time without needing to keep track of batteries. Powered by water, the alarm clock only requires additional water roughly ever month to keep it working.

The Leeds 1025-77BK Elements is a eco friendly water powered clock. The clock has a large, clear LCD screen for its display that is powered by water you place into the clock.

The Leeds 1025-77BK Elements turns water into electrical energy which it uses to power itself and its LCD display. The LCD screen measures 4.8 cm x 2.2 cm (1.875 in. x 0.875in.) which helps to ensure the information it displays is clear and easily seen. The clock can display both date and time on its display. As the clock is powered by water it can be placed wherever it is required, though some access to it is needed to allow you refill the clock with fresh water when it is required. After the clock has been filled with fresh water, it should provide enough electricity to operate itself for around a week and a half.

The clock measures 8.3 cm x 7 cm x 10.8 cm (3.25 in. x 2.75 in. x 4.25 in.). It comes with complete instructions for use and also includes a back up button battery, to help the clock function even when it has run out of power from the water. If you don’t have any batteries, but you have plenty of soil, then you’ll like this mud powered digital clock. Using nothing but damp soil and 2 different metals, the current that’s created is enough to power a digital clock. The clock is designed as an educational eco toy, helping kids to learn a little about the chemistry of batteries.

The kit uses copper and zinc to create a flow of electrons, which is the current that drives the low voltage digital display. We’ve almost seen it all, a water-powered clock, a lemon-powered clock, now we have a mud-powered clock! Designed by Francesco Castiglione Morelli and Tommaso Ceschi, the Timeless Garden uses the chemical reaction between metal and mud to generate enough electricity to power a clock!

You can plant what you like in the clock, and grass has been chosen for this design. Not only do you remove the need for electricity, but the oxygen-generating benefits of a plant also does its bit for the environment. Going one step further, the clock itself is made from recycled plastic.

As far as eco-friendly clocks go, this has got to be the most appealing I’ve ever seen. It would be even more useful to have a larger plant pot, as well as a clock that uses the MSF signal to automatically set itself to the right time.

The Mini Hydro Clock is a small clock (about 2.5cm by 5cm) which simply displays the time. No alarm function, no date or calendar information. Just the time.

However, what is interesting is that you can power it with any fluid you like, including water, juice, milk and beer. I imagine that the smell from the milk when it goes off will be pretty nasty though! Considering you can use almost any water-based solution to power the clock without batteries…. you could use urine too!
