The World’s Smallest Solar Powered Racing Car is basically a tiny racing car powered exclusively by solar energy. Using a tiny solar panel, the car moves along any smooth flat surface using it’s tiny electric motor. Just shine a bright light on the car, or put it into sunlight to get it to move. (more…)

The Renewable Energy Experiment Kit is a complete eco toy that allows children to experiment with different renewable energy sources. The kit includes a wind turbine, a solar cell, electrolytic cells and a hand-powered dynamo which can all be used to generate electricity. The generated electricity is stored in a built-in rechargeable battery, and the effectiveness of each energy source can be measured using the built-in voltmeter. (more…)

If you don’t have any batteries, but you have plenty of soil, then you’ll like this mud powered digital clock. Using nothing but damp soil and 2 different metals, the current that’s created is enough to power a digital clock. The clock is designed as an educational eco toy, helping kids to learn a little about the chemistry of batteries. (more…)

For some reason, I really like kids eco toys, and the Dynamo Torch and Windmill Generator are no different.

The Dynamo Torch kit is a an educational eco toy that demonstrates how hand-motion, i.e. kinetic energy, can be transferred into electrical energy to light a light bulb. The kit contains an LED light bulb, a motor, gears, and full instructions. A drinks bottle can also be used to turn it into a lantern of sorts. Priced at $12.20 and aimed at kids 8 or older.

The Windmill Generator is very similar to the dynamo torch, but this time wind power is converted into electrical energy. The kit requires the kids to use a drinks bottle to support the motor and propeller. Then when the wind blows, the LED lights up. Priced at $9.95 and also aimed at kids 8 or older.

Finding eco toys for kids these days seems to be getting easier and easier. The Bottle Catamaran kit is basically a collection of bits that allows you to create a Catamaran using 500ml or 1 litre drinks bottles for buoyancy. So essentially you’re encouraging kids to recycle drinks bottles and turn it into a toy. (more…)

The Solar-Powered Eco House Electronics Kit is a great kit to get the kids interested in alternative energy whilst helping them to learn something too. The kit specifically teaches children about solar energy, as the solar panel can be used to power each of the LED sign display, the door sounds, and a windmill. (more…)

These RobotiKits are a collection of 3 mini robot kits designed for school grades 3 to 8, and possibly 9 to 12. These kits are very easy to assemble and demonstrate the principles of solar energy to children. Since the kits use solar energy, they require no batteries. (more…)

When I was a kid, I loved LEGO. I had all kinds of Technic LEGO, and used to spend hours playing with it. Well K’Nex are just the same and have an educational kit named the K’NEX Solar Energy System. The kit gives kids hands-on experiments with solar energy, building a total of 7 different models. (more…)
