The Solar-Powered Hybrid Alarm Clock is an interesting clock as it uses both battery and solar power to work. During the day, the clock is powered using solar power gathered from it’s solar panel. The Small Wonder device is a gadget that reduces limescale build up in your pipes by using electromagnetic fields to alter the chemical makeup of hard water. It’s the dissolved calcium and magnesium mineral salts that cause limescale to deposit in your pipes, kettle, water boilers. The Small Wonder gadget uses the electromagnetic field to keep the mineral salts as a suspension, which decreases salt saturation in the water, and therefore helps the softened water to dissolve existing limescale deposits. I recently reported on Eternaleds Hydrolux light bulbs, well, they’ve been innovating again and they’re now selling their LED floodlight bulbs that have an 80% energy saving compared to their incandescent counter-parts. The Eternaleds 9W LED Floodlight and Eternaleds 18W LED Floodlight are a drop-in replacement for any screw-type standard E27 medium base socket, replacing conventional 50W and 100W incandescent bulbs respectively. The D-Link Green DGS-2208 Network Switch is a 8 port gigabit network switch that saves energy compared to other network switches. The switch automatically detects which network ports are connected to an active system (e.g. a computer that’s switched on compared to a computer that’s switched off or in standby), and only provides power to the ports that are active. Additionally the switch can vary the amount of power usage depending on the length of wire between the switch and another device on the network. (more…)
