The Roberts Ecologic 6 is a compact DAB/FM digital radio alarm clock. The radio combines the traditional element of the analogue clock face with the modern technology of DAB radio and features low energy consumption.

The Roberts Ecologic 6 in black is a sleek and stylish radio alarm clock. The radio comes with 20 stations preset and can play both DAB and FM stations, the radio has an RDS system which allows the name of the FM station to be displayed when you are tuned in. The controls for the radio are simple to use via its menu, allowing you to select stations or set alarms with ease.

The Ecologic 6 has the ability to have up to 4 alarms set and can be set to sleep or snooze. The alarm can be set to wake you with either DAB/FM radio or with a buzzer, it also has a humane wake system which slowly increases the volume over time to wake you up in a more gradual manner. The time setting for the radio are updated automatically, allowing it to change from GMT to BST and back smoothly.

This Pink Hearts Wind-Up Radio allows you to both listen to the radio at any time without worry about batteries and to be able to charge your mobile phone by simply winding the handle.

The Pink Hearts Wind-Up Radio allows you to listen to FM/AM radio stations and finding these stations is simplified because of its auto station finder. The radio has a headphone socket but does not come with headphones. The radio though does come with many different mobile phone adapters for both old and new phones by brands like Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Motorola. This then allows you to charge your phone without the worry of finding an electrical source as you provide the power by winding the handle.

Much thought has gone into trying to make this radio as eco friendly as possible. The Pink Hearts Wind-Up Radio comes wrapped in Gekopak Bio-degradable packaging. This packaging has no wires or ties and is constructed solely from recycled paper this makes it easy to open and biodegradable.

The radio measures 8cm x 7.5cm x 3.5cm (3.1in x 3in x1.4in) and weighs 145g making it small and light to carry around so it is always there and ready to go when you need it. Pure Ecoplus One Mini DAB and FM Radio

The Pure Ecoplus One Mini is a compact low-energy DAB digital radio, which comes highly recommended by the Energy Savings Trust. The Pure Ecoplus One uses less than half the energy of most other DAB radios, and less than a third of the energy when in standby mode.

In addition to the energy saving aspect, the radio has a number of useful features that make it more useful compared to other DAB radios. The Pure Ecoplus One has a line in socket, so that you can connect your MP3 player, iPhone or CD player to play via the radio’s amplified speaker. The radio also has a USB socket which allows you to software update the radio as new features are added. The USB socket is something you don’t typically get with other DAB radios.

The radio is able to receive in the DAB Band III 174–240 MHz and FM 87.5–108 MHz frequencies. You can also get a rechargeable battery pack if you want to go completely wireless. The Pure Ecoplus One costs just £39.95, which is somewhat cheaper than other DAB radios, despite the extra features. Measuring just 130mm wide x 135mm high x 60mm deep, it’s a really compact unit too!

Hand Powered 2-way and AM/FM/NOAA Radio

If you’re stranded in the middle of nowhere, the last thing you need is to be scrambling around for batteries so that you can radio for help. You might have a solar panel, you might even have a few AA batteries floating around. But batteries don’t last forever, and solar powered chargers take several hours to charge standard batteries. The emergency crank radio exploits a hand-powered dynamo to give you several hours radio use on a 2-way radio.

Hand-powered radios are not a new eco-friendly technology, although this one does come with a weather band receiver (NOAA) and of course the 2-way radio aspect. Being able to charge up the radio at any time is a great way to ensure you can get hold of someone in an emergency. Of course the radio only has 5 mile range line-of-sight, but you’re not exactly looking to be in the middle of nowhere… or are you?

Could be a good way to keep in touch with the kids on a camping holiday though! (In case you can’t use a mobile phone for whatever reason).
