The Spice-Versa is made up of 6 sections surrounding a central light, the light used is a mercury spot light which is perfect for helping plants to grow. The gel locks away water efficiently, allowing you to only need to water the herb garden once every month.

To minimize any negative impact on the environment from the production of the planter materials such as bamboo have been used in the construction. Bamboo is a sustainable material that is quick to grow, making it a great material to use for items such as this.

The Bambu concept would allow the elderly, or those with lessened mobility to be able to grow plants with ease in their own home. The IRISO Water Dripper is a system that helps you to convert an old plastic bottle into a device to keep your plants watered. The device can be set to a number of drip rates to allow it to be compatible to a range of plant sizes and by using a large bottle you can ensure your plants are watered even if you are away for weeks.

IRISO Water Drippers are an efficient system for delivering your houseplants, or garden plants, water 24 hours a day even when you are away. The drippers help you to turn regular plastic drinks bottles into water storage tanks to supply the plants with constant water.  The enclosed system supplies water directly into the soil, helping to prevent the water from evaporating. It does this without using any electricity or access to mains water supply as it uses gravity to provide the plant with the water from the bottle.

The flow of water to the plant can be adjusted to suit the needs of the plant and can be anything from 150 ml a day to 1.5 ltr a day. This watering system helps you to re-purpose plastic bottles into something of use,  the system requires that the mouth of the bottle is a standard one (standard to both the .5ltr and 2ltr bottles commonly purchased) but any size of bottle you can find with this can be used. This allows you to attach a bottle big enough to provide your plants with water for a long time, usually for anything from 20 days to 2 months, perfect for when you are away on holiday. The system helps to prevent over watering and encourages more efficient use of water. It achieves this as there is no loss of water through evaporation nor is water being used in areas it is not required.

Industrial designer Jacky Wu has designed a simple artificial leaf to aid us in our plant watering.  This concept design has been named Dew Drop and aims to keep your plants watered without you ever needing to move a watering can.

The Dew Drop works from the basic principles of condensation, thereby extracting the water vapour out of the air and letting it run into your plant pot.  By simply placing the artificial leaf into the plant pot and plugging it in you should be ensuring your plant stays watered, with the water in the air condensing on the leaf and being funneled down into the plant pot.

Unless you happen to run your house solely from solar power (or any other green electricity source) the green benefits of such a device seem limited. Though you would obviously save yourself a small amount of water use, the power needs of such a device could render it pointless and may even make it a more harmful way for you to water your plants.  It may also have a limited effect in a building that has air conditioning (AC) or a dehumidifier, as the water vapour in the air will have already been removed to some extent from the area.

The Dew Drop should water your plant well in the right environment and would certainly be useful to those who easily forget to water their plants.  How natural it would look though to have multiple plants trailing electrical leads is another matter.
