This Cork Laptop Case has been made from fabric backed cork stitched into a pouch. The case helps protect your laptop from harm and as it is made from cork the laptop case is eco friendly.

The Cork Laptop Case is made from FSA (Forest Stewardship Council) certified cork. Natural Cork is taken from the bark of a cork oak tree, the tree is not harmed by this removal and replenishes the cork bark over time. This makes cork a material that can be harvested from the trees in a sustainable manner. It also biodegrades well as it is organic and can even be recycled into other things with relative ease.

There used to be a great need for cork, for bottle corks and such like, however more recently the need for natural cork has been diminished. Due to this decreasing need the cork oak trees in the Mediterranean are in danger. These trees are important to the area, maintaining biodiversity, protecting the landscape and of course the trees help to absorb a lot of carbon dioxide.  Finding new uses for this cork then is important.

The Cork Laptop Case protects laptops from harm as the cork cushions the laptop within, protecting it from bumps and scratches. Cork is a very light material and so makes a great laptop case as it adds barely any weight. The case comes in three different sizes: Macbook 13″  which gives a case that is 39cm x 26.7cm (15.4in x 10.5in), PC Laptop 15″ which gives a case that is 42.5cm x 29cm (16.7in x 11.4in) and Macbook Pro 15″ which gives a case that is 42.5cm  x 29cm (16.7in x 11.4in).

MSI have announced a new eco-friendly energy-efficient laptop which supposedly doesn’t compromise on performance. Their new MSI U110 ECO Wind Netbook, which they claim runs for 9 hours on a single battery charge, does not degrade in performance.

The U110 Eco Wind laptop features the Intel Menlow Platform with Intel Atom Processor clocked at 1.60GHz. The netbook features 802.11b/g/n WiFi support, a memory card reader, stereo speakers and comes with a variety of disk storage capacities from 80GB to 160GB. It sounds as if the netbook does not have a solid state drive, otherwise MSI would be claiming that as a feature too.

In line with other netbooks, it features a 10″ LCD screen and a reasonable processor speed. MSI also claim it’s the “world’s most power efficient netbook”… well everyone seems to be claiming they have the most eco-friendly or power efficient laptop at the moment. Regardless what the manufacturers claim, we’ll decide for ourselves.

Bamboo is becoming an increasingly popular material for use in green gadgets, and the Asus Bamboo Series Laptops are no exceptions. However, the use of the sustainable bamboo is only one of the two significant features of this laptop.

The user-configurable Super Hybrid Engine feature allows users to extend the battery life by between 35% and 70% as compared to laptop computers with the same specifications and without this eco friendly technology. What’s impressive is that the increased battery life still results in an improved system performance increase of 23%! Essentially the system monitors the power requirements of the laptop components and dynamically adjusts the power levels in real time.

The ultra slim ASUS Bamboo Series laptop is available in two versions; a 12.1″ and 11.1″ model weight 1.57kg and 1.25kg respectively. Both are fitted with Intel Core2 Duo processors and are fitted with DDRII RAM. You might want to compare cheap laptops with these specs, as they seem no different to normal laptops… apart from the eco-aspects.

The ASUS Bamboo series were designed whilst following the strict RoHS and WEEE directives. ASUS probably sell the laptop with recycled and recyclable packaging. Everyone else is. I doubt that the new skin features in any of the Asus patents, as using bamboo as part of a computer case is also becoming increasingly common.
