Solar Powered Stainless Steel Blue Deck Lights

These Stainless Steel Blue Deck Lights are a great way to light up your decking, gravel areas and pathways. The lights use bright blue toned LEDs to provide illumination once dusk has fallen that are powered from eco-friendly electricity.

The Solar Powered Stainless Steel Blue Deck Lights are available in packs of 4. Each spotlight contains a single ultra bright LED situated in the middle of the light with solar paneling surrounding it. The solar paneling converts the sunlight available during the day into electricity which is stored in the batteries contained within the spotlight. Energy Curtain – Providing Shade and Light

The Energy Curtain is a novel and attractive alternative for a window blind. Using special solar-energy collecting cells on the outer side of the blind, the blind stores up energy during the day. Then at night, you can have the blinds glowing to provide you with free lighting. However, the blinds do need to be down during the day time in order to charge up.

With so many solar products, often the product looks pretty basic or flimsy. This is one of a few products that I’ve seen that actually looks great and has a functional aspect. Unfortnately, the energy curtains are not available to buy at the time of writing.

The curtains were designed by Anders Ernevi, Margot Jacobs, Ramia Mazé, Carolin Müller, Johan Redström and Linda Worbin for the Interactive Institute.

The nights are starting to draw in, but its still very pleasant outside. To combat the lack of light, having Solar-Powered Garden Fairy Lights can really give a garden a fantastic look without needing to worry about expensive electricians or huge energy bills. Using nothing but the sun’s energy, you can add a touch of style to the garden as well as giving yourself some extra light.

The solar lights come in a range of sizes, namely a 5 metres length with 50 LEDs, a 10 metres length with 100 LEDs and 28m length with 280 LEDs. Each are priced at £29.99, £39.99 and £69.99 respectively. If you want to cover a large area in lights quickly, then the Fairy Light Net is a better purchase, costing £69.99 for 200 LEDs. Great for trailing over fences, walls and trees.

With winter coming, you can even use them as outdoor Christmas lights. We do sometimes get some sunlight in the winter in the UK!

Eternaleds HydraLux 4W LED Light Bulb

The Eternaleds HydraLux-4 is a fresh innovation in the area of lighting, since it’s a 4W LED bulb that produces the equivalent light of a 25W incandescent A-Shape bulb. The bulb is designed to last 35x longer than conventional incandescent bulbs (so 35,000 hours), saving approximately $157.00 over lifetime in bulb and electricity costs.

The Hydralux 4W bulb uses a standard E27 medium base socket, such as those found in desk lamps. To keep the bulb cool, the bulb uses completely harmless paraffin oil, which has also been tested to UL and ROHS standards. What’s also interesting is that the bulb is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, and is fully dimmable.

The bulb comes in 2 versions, “Warm White” for a soft ambient light, and “Daylight White” which is a whiter light useful for working. The bulbs are available for $34.99 each plus shipping costs.

Lighting for your Swimming Pool powered by water

If you’re lucky enough to have your own swimming pool, then you’ll have some pool lighting. These clever EcoLights, designed by Lysandre Follet are powered by a built-in turbine that powers the bright LEDs. This means you don’t need to worry about installing electricity in and around your pool.

The Eco-Lights need to be connected to the pre-exisiting flow from the filter pump, which use the flow of water to drive the mini turbine. Therefore if your filter pump is switched off, the lights won’t be on. An interesting idea though. Perhaps another idea would be to combine solar power and tidal power (i.e. water lapping) to power the lights?

Solar Powered Patio Lighting – LED Umbrella Light

Chinavasion have released a solar powered LED lighting unit for your outdoor umbrella. The batteries in the light unit charge during the day, and at night you can switch on the LED lighting to illuminate underneath your existing patio umbrella.

The lighting unit is designed to fit around the pole of your patio umbrella using specially designed fixings. There are a total of 24 bright LEDs that provide bright downward illumination or diffused upward illumination if fitted the other way up.

The solar panel comes with 3 metres of cable that allow you to position the solar panel in the brightest part of your garden near the patio umbrella. The battery unit can also be charged via AC adaptor if required.
