If you’re stranded in the middle of nowhere, the last thing you need is to be scrambling around for batteries so that you can radio for help. You might have a solar panel, you might even have a few AA batteries floating around. But batteries don’t last forever, and solar powered chargers take several hours to charge standard batteries.
