The Leopard by Powerplus is a solar powered universal TV remote control. The Leopard can charge from direct sunlight and ambient light from artificial sources.  By simply having the remote on the arm of a chair, a sofa or on a coffee table, the batteries will charge providing you with power to control your TV without worry of running out of batteries.

The Leopard has 34 different function buttons to help ensure it fits all your TV needs, and is easy to program to your particular TV model. The solar panel charges an internal lithium-ion battery and the electrical power is stored there until you require it. Though it may charge faster if left in direct sunlight like that found on a brightly lit windowsill, the remote will charge from artificial light sources, so by simply having the solar panel facing up in a room which is lit the panel will work and charge the internal battery.

The Leopard measures 18.6cm x 4.9cm x 1.7cm (7.3in x 1.9in x 0.7in) and weighs around 76g, which is comparable to standard battery powered remotes.

The All For One Remote is a universal remote controller, capable of handling up to 4 different AV devices. The remote can then be used to control all 4 devices without needing to find any other remote and can turn off all 4 devices from standby at the press of a button.

The All For One Remote made by One For All has been designed to help save power consumption by allowing all devices connected to it to be turned from standby to off at a single press of a big green button. The company believes that by using this button a person can save up-to 90% of their standby energy consumption.

The All For One Remote has been designed for use with AV devices such as TVs, DVD players,  Satellite/Cable/DVB-T devices and surround sound systems. By ‘tuning’ the control to the devices in your house you can then take control of up to 4 devices from the one remote control.

The remote comes with a plug that can be controlled by the remote and it is this plug that the remote turns off when the Green energy saving button is pressed. Extra plugs can be brought, though the devices could all be plugged into one plug extension 4 gang. The 4 gang could then be plugged into the remote controlled plug allowing the devices to be all turned off through the one remote controlled plug.

Most solar powered security lights automatically switch on when motion is detected, however, the Solar Mate Point 5 is a little different in that it is switched on and off via a keyfob remote control. The battery is charged up via the solar panel during the day, and a fully charged battery gives you around 3 hours of continuous light.

The light has a total of 10 bright LEDs and an internal battery pack of 3 AA rechargeable batteries. The LEDs are bright enough to cover a 7 square metre area with light. The solar lamp is connected to the solar panel via a 1.7 metre wire, which allows the solar panel to be placed for optimal sunlight.

The remote control requires 2 x AAA batteries, which probably has a transmitting range of between 10 and 30 metres. You can also switch on the light without the remote control by using the button on the light itself.

A group of designers (Lee Sung Hoon, Kang Sooyeon, Cho Eun Bee, Lee Junehwa and Kim Jean) have come up with a novel re-design of the beloved TV remote control. Exploiting the energy generated by a moving magnet within a coil, the remote control is powered by simply shaking the remote control. There is no need for a battery.

In a novel twist, you can point and shake the remote in a specific direction to change the channel or change the volume. The remote uses a gesture to determine what you’re trying to do. When the remote control is shaken, electromagnetic induction generates a 20-30mA current, which is enough to send the infra-red signals needed to get the TV to do something.

To determine which direction the remote is pointing, you simply look at the magnet through the transparent case. The magnet is used to indicate the gadget’s orientation. The novelty of changing the channel or volume by shaking the unit might wear off after a week though. You’ll probably end up throwing the remote at the TV!
