The Enviroplug is an energy saving adapter for mobile phones. The plug adapter allows you to leave you mobile phone plugged in safe in the knowledge that once the phones battery has been fully changed the plug will stop any further ‘vampire’ drain of electricity.

The Enviroplug can help to save up to 90% of the electricity you would have otherwise used through your mobile phone charger. It achieves this due to its ability to cut the power going out of itself and to the device. The plug adapter features an LED light which visually displays what the plug is actively doing. Te reset the Enviroplug after it has charged your phone you do need to switch the power off and on again to it, or unplug and replug it. The plug adapter does use more electricity than a standard charger would when charging a phone, a standard charger draws around 2 watts an hour, the Enviroplug draws 2.8 watts an hour. This additional usage is soon mitigated by the saving of electricity that can be made.

Many people leave their phones to charge overnight even though phones are often charged within two hours. Each hour the phone is plugged in after full charge have been achieved the charger would usually draw 2 watts, where as the Enviroplug will only draw 0.35 watts an hour. For those that leave the charger constantly plugged in the amount of energy saved is substantially greater as a charger left plugged in but not connected to a mobile still uses about 24 watts over a 16 hour period. With the Enviroplug this amount is reduced to 0.8 watts in 16 hours.

The Eco Dry tries to balance things a bit more evenly, concentrating more energy into airflow, which is a much more energy efficient way of drying hair. The hair dryer then dries the hair as effectively as a conventional hairdryer, it uses half the power simply because its motor system works more efficiently to move the warmed air through your hair to dry it quickly.

The hair dryer comes with some of the usual features of modern hair dryers – a slim line concentrating nozzle,  ionic conditioning, and a lightweight design (0.35kg). It also has two heat/speed settings. Though it uses half the energy of most hair dryers it still uses a lot of energy for the simple job of drying hair, one way to make an electrical saving (the equivalent of 14 cups of tea and 22 slices of toast being made) is to simply let your hair dry naturally.

The Efergy Shower Timer is a simple gadget that helps you save water when having a shower, simply by beeping when it’s time to get out. The ecobee Smart Thermostat is an advanced temperature control system for your home, which makes it easier to save energy through having more control of your central heating system. Fluorescent light bulbs seem like a great way to save on energy with lighting, right? Well yes, but there are a couple of big concerns when using them. Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) are so fragile that they often break, and when they do, it’s not just shattered glass that will hit the floor, but mercury as well, both of which are a major problem if you have kids or pets.

The new ArmorLite EcoSafety Coating resolves both of these concerns, plus makes those spirally bulbs look a lot nicer. Basically a regular spiral fluorescent light bulb inside a protective Safety Coating, the ArmorLite bulb looks like an incandescent bulb, but will keep all the broken shards of glass and mercury safely inside the skin in the event that it breaks.

The ArmorLite bulb in its protective casing will be available for purchase in December for $7.99 from the manufacturer, ClearLite. The only question is, is it worth the extra money?

A lot of consumers will say yes. Fluorescent bulbs break so easily, and the freedom to use them without being worried about toxins and glass shards will be a welcome relief. I must admit, I love the combination of the remote control and the motion sensing aspect of the frame, since you get complete control over when the gadget is switched on.
