I’ve found that with most solar-powered lights for the garden, that they have a very artificial look about them. Most often, the solar lights you get are in a black or silver finish, which can look very out of place in a garden. Carly Hagins is an industrial designer who has created the Tonto Task Light, which is a solar-powered gadget designed to light your path when out trekking and walking. During the day, the small solar panel charges the internal battery, at night you can switch between white light or UV light. Since scorpions are difficult to see at night or in dusk, and since scorpions fluoresce under UV light, the UV torch can help you avoid the little creatures. (more…)

This rather odd looking Solar Light USB from Sanyo features a large solar panel to charge a fairly chunky battery. The battery takes around 15-30 daylight hours to fully charge up, giving 9 to 50 hours of light depending on which lights are used. (more…)

A pair of designers by the names of Yoon-Hui Kim and Eun-Kyung Kim have come up with a blind that features a solar panel on the outside and lighting on the other side. During the day, the lighting charges up via the solar panels. At night, the room glows using arrays of LED lights in the shape of conventional looking lighting, such as lampshades and bed-side lamps.
