The Nature Series USB Flash drive is an attractive USB drive made from PEFC certified (sustainable) natural hardwood. The USB drive is machined from European Maple, and can be made into a number of capacities from 32MB to 8GB. The USB drive and the manufacturer FlashBay are both completely carbon neutral too.

The USB drives measure 58mm x 22mm x 11mm, weigh 11 grams, and are supported on Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista, Mac OS X and above. The Nature Series USB Flash drive can be branded by either colour printing or laser engraving. This means you can order USB drives branded with your company’s message or logo. You might give them out with presentation material after a converence. If you have an ethical business, a carbon neutral gadget would reinforce that message.

I must say, the Nature Series USB is the nicest looking USB drive I’ve seen in a while, let alone one that’s also an eco-friendly gadget too.

In August I reported on the eco gadget, recycled plastic and recyclable EarthDrive, and this is another green gadget, Swedish USB Drive product that seems to be made of the same paper and wood chipboard that all Ikea furniture is made from! The recycled paper drive looks very plain and is otherwise the same as any other USB drive in terms of specification.

USB drive capacities are clearly starting to grow, as this drive is available between 512MB and 16GB. However, the EarthDrive can be recycled, this usb product doesn’t seem to be.

Perhaps another one of those eco-products for the sake of having the eco-friendly gadget name-tag?

It seems that computer gadgets are a new target for the eco-friendly world, with low power PCs and disk drives using recycled materials. Today we get to see the ATP 8GB EarthDrive made from bio-recycled plastics (not sure what bio-recycled means compared to recycled!) for an attractive $48. The housing of the device is completely recyclable, although this is no good unless you want to throw the drive in the trash!

The drive is waterproof, dust proof and when you buy one of the memory sticks, a portion of the money is donated towards the cost of planting new trees (although how much it is unclear). It’s nice to see some eco-friendly gadgets coming on to the market, as long as they don’t exploit the eco-angle too much!
